Prof. Claudia Borg – Associate Professor, Department of Artificial Intelligence, University of Malta
Prof. Claudia Borg is an Associate Professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence, University of Malta. Her research focuses on applying AI techniques to the processing of the Maltese language, spanning areas such as large language models, computational linguistics, and bias in AI systems.
She coordinated LT-BRIDGE, an EU H2020 Widening Twinning project aimed at bridging the gap between European and Maltese research in AI and Language Technologies. Prof. Borg currently leads several national and EU-funded projects that develop essential computational tools for Maltese, supported by Xjenza Malta, MDIA, Malta Enterprise, and other European programs.
She also serves as the National Coordinator of DARIAH, the Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities, and played a leading role in building the first automatic speech recognition system for Maltese, funded through the University of Malta Research Excellence Fund.
In recognition of her contributions to innovation and technology, Prof. Borg received the Women and Girls Inspirational Leadership Award 2023 from the British High Commission.
Mohamed Berrimi, PhD, PhD – PhD degrees in artificial intelligence and machine learning
Mohamed Berrimi holds two PhD degrees in artificial intelligence and machine learning, with research spanning deep learning, NLP, 3D computer vision, and large language models. Mohamed is also Google Expert in AI/ML and Google Cloud.
Currently, Mohamed is an AI lead at Fyler search, building efficient retrieval and search systems powered by Gen AI models.
